Diving Deeper: The ongoing Saga of a Monumental Project
NATIONAL GALLERY OF AUSTRALIA, CANBERRA
National Gallery of Australia, Canberra ordered a similar project for a different ceiling type. Tri, NGA was designed to fit the needs.
Major design changes and upgrades were made. The triangular track similar to the Hex were designed to support existing track lights. Additionally, a spotlight was placed at the center to illuminate the floor and certain artwork around the museum. The client demanded flexibility in the design allowing them to replace the center spotlight with other luminaires or a CCTV camera. This would keep the structure versatile and functional.
The design featured, 2 x tripod arms designs. Both were designed to envelope the wiring in its entirety. One set of tripods were designated to allow ceiling attachments and the other joined the triangular tracks. The ceiling tripod set allowed the client to attach the entire (assembled) structure without compromising the base alignment with the cut out. Elaborating on that, the ceiling (mounting) wasn’t flat and would lead to the triangular track being tilted post installation. The design covered for the same giving an even, flat face on every installed Tri piece.
Similar to the Hex, active work was put into hiding wires and all mechanical components giving a clean finish to the final product. Nevertheless, NGA was happy.
