Reimagining the Past: A Masterful Museum Makeover Redefining its Cultural Legacy.
NATIONAL GALLERY OF AUSTRALIA, CANBERRA
National Gallery of Australia, Canberra was refurbished in its entirety. Among other things, the old historical light fittings and the entire set of ceiling luminaires were replaced. The idea was to have a light source in the shape of the ceiling cut out producing uniform illumination. The center of the triangle would have a spotlight of higher lumens acting as a spotlight on the floor or certain artwork. The most important aspect to be considered here was NGA’s persuasion on keeping the historic outlook with the modern appeal of a slim, more neat design.
We came up with 2 x designs for the ceiling - Tri and Hex for NGA. The project is near completion and can be viewed in December 2023. Hex is displayed below followed by Tri as the next project.
The Hex, NGA went through 9 revisions over a time period of 4 months. The design became significantly more aesthetic and robust. The newer designs featured in-built drivers with DALI allowing the user full autonomy of switching on/off and changing the color settings remotely via their phone.
The unique design would allow our client to re-install existing track lights and move along the hexagonal structure. The same could hold up 3 x track light fittings. Satisfaction rates peaked as the design met the requirements of no exposed wires, screws, bracket or any mechanical and electrical components being visible post installation. Long-story-short, we received a 2 x thumbs up.
